M.O.M. Master Organizer of Mayhem: Simple Solutions to Organize Chaos and Bring More Joy into Your Home
By Kristi Clover
There are pictures of me organizing my doll clothes and styling my own outfits…as a three-year-old. My large collection of books in my room was always displayed alphabetically by author and then by title and I knew when someone would move a book because chances were good it was not put back where it was “supposed” to be. My parents joke my childhood bedroom floor was so clean you could eat off of it. From a very young age, I kept things neat and tidy in my life and fully believed there was a place for everything and allowed everything in my life to stay in its place.
Yeah, for better or for worse my perfectionism and Type-A personality were discovered quite early in my life. While there were years when both of these bents plagued me, I have since adapted and applied God’s amazing gift of grace to all areas of my life and now refer to myself as a recovering perfectionist. Life really is better on the other side of grace and I am grateful to have learned the valuable lesson that life’s many imperfections can become God’s most perfect blessings.
Still, organization, cleanliness, preparedness and the like, are all a big part of how I am wired. With that said, I felt I didn’t need to read the latest book on home organization because I keep my home pretty well organized. However, I could not get past the title, tagline and the cover of the book when this book became an option for me to review. It was almost as if it was picking me apart like the Legos that are scattered on its cover and I couldn’t help but wonder how all the little pieces would be put together to create a bigger picture.
M.O.M. Master Organizer of Mayhem: Simple Solutions to Organize Chaos and Bring More Joy into Your Home by Kristi Clover is not just a catchy title with a hopeful message, but is practicality packed with purpose. It is one of the easiest, most relatable and relevant books I’ve ever read and I was hooked on it from the beginning.
The author, Kristi Clover, is a mother of five children who not only homeschools and is a home organization and efficiency expert but is also a public speaker and podcast host. In essence – Kristi is awesome! Completely humble, honest, and real, she is the definition of what it means to be authentic and I think her genuine realness is what makes this book so darn good!
Organized into three parts, M.O.M. Master Organizer of Mayhem will walk you through the foundations, the framework and the finishing touches you need to develop and obtain in order to create and maintain a purposeful, joy-filled home. Unlike many home organizing specialists out there, Kristi gives the reader very practical and applicable tips, tools, and strategies to tackle any and all areas of your home. From decluttering and organizing, to implementing meal prep, laundry prep, and family chore responsibilities, M.O.M. Master Organizer of Mayhem will encourage and motivate you to create a home that is both functional and fabulous.
Step by step and room by room, Kristi discusses the ins and outs of getting started, pushing past procrastination and laziness, what to do if you feel you’re in over your head and what not to do – DO NOT GIVE UP! Kristi is an excellent cheerleader throughout this book and offers “toolbox tips” along with personal motivation and links to different types of printables via her website that will inspire you to stay organized and personally apply her concepts to your own life.
One of the biggest highlights of this book for me was the offering and suggestions of creating multiple systems, routines and strategies for the various areas of organization. Kristi acknowledges that home organization is not a “one size fits all” concept but rather is something that needs to be uniquely, specifically and custom designed in order to fit the distinctive needs of a family. How refreshing! (I mean, don’t you just love her already?!) Likewise, I found a lot of benefit in her ideas on how to develop routines for households with children. I am an organized person but admittedly, I am struggling in the routine department. As a homeschooling, working mother of five kids, she offers so much wisdom and encourages the reader to recognize when it is time to seek help and how to effectively run an efficient home. But again, she never tries to push her way as the only way but instead offers many different ways of doing things while challenging the reader to determine what systems would best fit within their own family.
Relatable and realistic, M.O.M. Master Organizer of Mayhem is a book that speaks like a best friend coming over to save the day when you’re in the middle of laundry overload, toddler tantrums and a house that is like an obstacle course of homemade blanket forts, puzzle pieces, Lego bits and tiny Barbie accessories. It is a book that will look you in the eye and let you know that it’s okay to start small as long as you start at all. This book will hold your hand throughout the entire journey as you learn how to best navigate, organize and maintain your home.
If you’re looking for a pick-me-up that will satisfy and uplift you more than that fourth cup of coffee, I highly recommend checking out M.O.M. Master Organizer of Mayhem. Your home, your family and your sanity will thank you.
